We are an independent book publishing services company. We help authors write, edit, design, publish and market their books, and we keep the rights and the royalties in the author’s name.

Between 1962 and 1989, Stein & Day was one of New York’s best-known independent publishing houses. We chose the name because we admired what the original house stood for: independent publishing, author advocacy, and books that mattered. We are not the original house, and we say so plainly.

Publishing has changed more in the last twenty years than in the previous two hundred. Print on demand means authors no longer have to print thousands of copies and hope they sell. Online retail gives every book a shelf, whether it comes from a giant conglomerate or a kitchen table.

What has not changed is the work it takes to make a book good. A manuscript still needs an editor who will tell the author the truth. A cover still needs a designer who understands what readers in that genre expect.

That is where we fit. We are the craftspeople authors hire to make their book the best version of itself, without surrendering ownership along the way.

We are a newer, independent publishing services company that chose the name for what it stood for. We are not the original house, we are not affiliated with its founders or their estates, and we say so plainly on every page of our website.

What we share is the conviction that independent publishing is where the most interesting work happens.
